I can see some benefits, but it's a bit annoying that they are forcing our hands here....
*Edit* I'm going to be a guinea pig and try to figure this out today. I will let you guys know how it goes.

It's annoying but everything that's possible in non-Steam should be possible in Steam. Some things will be done differently but it won't be any more quirky than it is now.

Non steam match maker will still work as will normal way of downloading cars and mods. Just really means only way to purchase is via steam. And if some mods are released via workshop only

So I'm in the process of sorting this out with Mr Wheatley at the moment.
Basically the deal is that if you don't have a lifetime subscription (like me) you can upgrade it to lifetime through steam for $22. I have agreed to that deal and am awaiting a response on the actual process of moving it over to steam. I will keep this updated with any relevant information to swapping your account over.

Cant get a proper answer about dragging rfcm files across to Steam instalation from original packages folder. Do you mean doing this for ISI content to avoid redownloading it or just any rfcmp in general?

I see one problem being that I run 2 installs sometimes for keeping some stuff seperate, I guess I'm not going to be able to do that now. I do have a few other things that run on steam and they work ok , the only thing that bugs me is that it always seems to be updating. I wonder if this switch means updates will continue or slowly come to a halt.

I linked mine to steam late last year. The auto updates from the workshop are really nice. All the .rfcmp files install the same way as the non-steam version, place it in the packages folder, then in the launcher hit install. Workshop items are in italics with an asterisk so you cannot manage them from the launcher, but from the workshop only. I wonder how long they will host the mods on their servers now that this has been announced?

Cant get a proper answer about dragging rfcm files across to Steam instalation from original packages folder. If you were referring to avoiding having to redownload ISI content then I do believe this will be possible. I haven't tested it with the Steam client yet but I did a test with SteamCMD which has me pretty convinced it will work. It's not quite a copy-paste procedure but it shouldn't be too difficult. I'll look into it further if you're interested.

Hi guys, just butting in here but I did the switch last night. I got an activation code sent and went to Steam and activated Rf 2, it downloads the game and all ISI content. It also downloads 3PA content as well. Once it is all installed it syncs your game with the workshop, if you haven't subscribed to the workshop, just do it and they will send another code.
You can then go to the workshop and just download what you want by subscribing to it and it will download and install it automatically, you may have to restart the game for some mods to install.
You can also just drag and drop stuff from your current package folder into the steam rf2 package folder and just go into the game and install it like always.
It works fine and seeing as there wont be any new updates aside from in steam, if you want to use newest version of RF 2 every time its updated, then there is no other way than to Steam up!.
I have always had the lifetime version so don't know about the yearly subscription stuff.
See you guys soon.
